Entry Seventeen.
A Crazy in Lion's Clothing

This is the tale of my first date which occurred without aid from an online source. My friend likes to call these girls "Normies," as opposed to their crazy online counterparts. I think this term is generous, to say the least - I don't think girls in the real world are any less batsh*t crazy then the online versions.

This particular normie I met while at the annual grad school Halloween party, so it's a little out of date, and for whatever reason I was hesitant to write about it, but here it is.

The following is the recounting of our meeting, as well as our first and only date the following weekend. Enjoy...

I mentioned the PGSS Halloween Party in a few of my previous posts. Earlier that day East Coast had ended things with me (if you recall), so I was ready to get drunk and have a good time and forget about her. The night started out at a pre-party at a friend's place, before we all headed over to the campus's grad club.

After checking my coat, I went to grab a drink at the crowded bar. I pushed my way through and flirted with a couple of nurses with names like Maggy and Montana along the way. On the way back to my friends I caught the eye of a cute girl in what turned out to be a modified child's lion costume. We quickly got to talking, or - in her case - roaring, to each other. She liked my costume and I teased her about her pathetic attempts at lion mimicry. I learned we both went to Western, and graduated the same year. She was starting her Master's in Nursing (she was friends with the other girls), and had taken a few years off in between degrees to travel Africa and Australia like almost every other person I know who went to Western. Anyways, we hit it off and spent most of the night flirting. We finally exchanged numbers before we returned to our respective groups. I finished the night with my fellow scientists but went home with a smile on my face.

I messaged her the next day and we made plans to meet for drinks that Friday. In the meantime I looked her up and it turns out she is Facebook friends with one of my best friends. I got the scoop on her, and a look at a couple of pictures of her sans costume. I suggested we meet up at Reservoir for our drinks date, and she agreed it was an excellent choice.

I arrived early and waited for her outside. She was late and the place was packed, but we found a spot at the bar. We had a couple of beers as she regaled me of her worldly adventures. I didn't get too many words in, but we talked a little of Western and our mutual acquaintances. The highlight of the evening had to be the grilled cheese sandwich we split - "Grilled cheese au gruyère, beurre de pomme et oignons mariné — 7.50 — extra lard 1.50" - do yourself a favor and order the extra lard if you get a chance.

She had friends coming in for a visit that weekend so she had to leave early, but asked me to walk her home. I remember her walking fast; I tried a few times to slow down our pace without luck. I'm not sure if she was in a hurry to be rid of me, or just clueless to my attempts. When we got to her place, her roommate opened the door to meet their arriving guests (who were down the street) so our goodbye was cut short. She kissed me goodnight, closed lips, twice, and we decided to try and make plans for later the next week.

I texted her a few times later that weekend but was mostly blown off - too busy to hang out because of exams, other commitments, but that she'd text me eventually. I ran into her a couple days later walking across campus and it was really awkward. Suffice it to say I never heard from her again but I'll definitely have that grilled cheese again.
