Happy Holidays readers! Hopefully you are all somewhere snuggled up, warm, with your significant others, while I'm sitting here out in the cold by my lonesome.
Nah, I kid - I'm at home with my wonderful family enjoying their company, and it's kinda quiet so I decided to do some writing.
The German was kind of a fluke. I wasn't really trolling the website for anyone when I went out with her (she had messaged me, remember) and it also took us a couple weeks to nail down a date. It was also nearing the Holidays, and I figured it would be hard to coordinate anything with anyone, so I wasn't really looking for anyone when I stumbled upon The Burlesque Dancer. Her profile was the first in awhile that inspired me to write a message, so I did so. The Burlesque Dancer was a tall, red-haired, Ukelele playing, homeless, racoon-hat wearing, burlesque dancing, child-studies studying, East Coaster.
We exchanged a couple of solid messages, hers were well written and funny and I was charmingly witty as usual. We decided to meet up fairly quickly because of our compressed before-Christmas schedules. I suggested one of my usual haunts - Bily Kun - and we set a date for the middle of the week.
I rolled up my pant legs, donned my hipster scarf and took the metro to Mont Royal. I was early and waited outside the newly renovated Bily Kun for her to arrive. She was a little late, but she looked like the cute girl in her pictures and must have been taller then the 5'10 she advertised. Her voice was deep and might have smelled of cigarettes but I'm still not sure. She asked me about smoking later on, but nothing definitive came up.
It was pretty quite, and we sat down for a couple beers. We had great chemistry and we talked about a lot of different stuff - her dancing, her hats, her Ukeleles. Also the usual school/work/future stuff. We ordered a few more rounds and started getting footsie and handsie. I was sick and still had a cough or I would have asked for a kiss at the bar. I think asking for one comes off pretty smoothly, but less so in between bouts of coughing.
She had to catch a metro deep into hipster territory so instead of a 5th round we decided to walk around the neighborhood before the last metro left. It had started to snow while we were inside (the first of the season) and was really pretty outside when we left.
We said goodnight outside the station and had a light make-out session, and decided to see each other again the next week (in between her exams). I had low expectations going into the date, and it was definitely one of the better ones I've had, on par with my second date with Gamer Girl.
We talked a few times after the date, and made definite plans to go see the Christmas extravaganza in the Old-Port. They were subsequently postponed, and upon trying to reschedule I was met with the silent treatment. She eventually sent me a message a couple days ago explaining that there had been a family emergency that required her to fly home early, and that she couldn't date right now. I sent my condolences and told her I understood. I saw this coming though, I'm pretty sure she had just gotten out of a long term relationship (which I believe was responsible for her homelessness). A lot of the girls on that site tend to be like this, they jump into Online dating when they aren't ready and when it gets even a little serious they get sent running.
I think I'm going to cool down a little bit on the Online stuff, at least until the new year, the holidays are a horrible time to start dating.
Merry Christmas and happy New Year folks!
ditto on the christmas and new years thang
